Tribal Citizen Tax Benefits
Many tribal citizens may qualify for important state tax incentives designed to support economic participation and strengthen Native communities. If you are a tribal citizen who lives and works on tribal land, you may be eligible for exemptions through Schedule ETM or your state’s Tribal Member Tax Credit.
Schedule ETM (Exempt Tribal Member Income)
Schedule ETM allows qualifying tribal citizens to exempt certain income earned directly on their own reservation from state income tax.
Business Owners
Do you own your own business? If you make sales/services ON tribal land that will count towards the Schedule ETM Tax Credit. Any sale/service off tribal will not qualify for this tax credit.
Individuals who may qualify often include:
- Tribal citizens who reside on tribal land
- Individuals whose primary employment occurs on the reservation
- Tribal employees working for a tribal government, entity, or business
- Citizens whose income is connected to on-reservation economic activity
Eligible taxpayers can complete Schedule ETM when filing state returns to properly document exempt income and ensure accurate tax reporting. One of our team members will fill out this form for you during your scheduled appointment
